The beginning of this month saw the publication of the much-awaited NHS Long Term Plan, see more below. Whilst there were no big surprises, we are pleased that integrated care remains a key direction of travel, and welcome the additional investment in primary and community services that will help make this real. We were also delighted that Channel 5 News chose the Epsom Health & Care @Home service as part of their coverage of the launch (see the link below).
The good news is that everything we are already doing is very much aligned to the Plan and we continue to work towards becoming a more mature Integrated Care System from April. We are also working with partner colleagues to develop a 10 year plan for Surrey and look forward to engaging our communities on the emerging themes as this develops.
We’ve brought you lots of news and developments this month and I hope you enjoy reading about these; one that I would like to highlight is the continued success of our 24/7 Maternity Advice Line, nominated for another national award (see below). The team continue to develop the service and are doing an amazing job – another name-check in the NHS Long-term Plan as well! We are also publishing regular blogs on our website; check weekly for the latest update.
Finally, as the weather is turning colder, our services continue to feel the winter pressure. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank staff across our system for all their hard work in keeping patients safe and well cared for. Please help by thinking carefully about choosing the right service when you need help, and remind friends and family too – more information on choosing the right service is available here.
With very best wishes,
Dr Claire Fuller, Senior Responsible Officer for Surrey Heartlands
